Don Quixote, published in two parts in 1605 and 1615, is Miguel de Cervantes' masterpiece and one of the most influential works in world literature. It tells the story of Alonso Quijano, a middle-aged gentleman who becomes so obsessed with chivalric romances that he sets out as a knight-errant under the name Don Quixote, accompanied by his loyal and pragmatic squire Sancho Panza. Through their adventures and misadventures — famously tilting at windmills he imagines as giants — Cervantes created a profound and hilarious exploration of illusion and reality, idealism and pragmatism, madness and wisdom.
