Micrographia (1665) by Robert Hooke is the first major publication of the Royal Society and the first book devoted entirely to microscopic observations. Featuring 38 exquisite copper-plate engravings, it reveals the intricate detail of fleas, lice, feathers, plants, and crystals. Hooke coined the term 'cell' after observing cork under his microscope. Samuel Pepys called it 'the most ingenious book that I ever read in my life.' A landmark in the history of science.
