Predating Dracula by 25 years, it tells the story of Laura, a young woman living in a secluded castle in Styria, who becomes the target of the mysterious and seductive Carmilla. A landmark of vampire literature, it pioneered the female vampire archetype and has influenced countless works of horror fiction.
